My Skincare Routine

You read the title right! The time has come. I FINALLY finished my skincare routine. Why did it take so long you might ask, well I was ready to write and I got some new things I wanted to try out and see if I can incorporate them in my everyday routine. I have found a routine that has been working on my skin without any problems.

*ques sad violin music*

I've had acne since the I started puberty. It was something I struggled with through my teenage years and some of my adult years. I remember I wouldn't go anywhere without makeup. I didn't have the confidence to walk out of the house without makeup. I knew I was wearing foundation that wasn't even close to my skin tone but I didn't care as long as it covered my "imperfections". There was a time I could look at people in the face - I felt they were just staring at my pimples.

You know when people say that have tried everything and you think "did you really try everything?" I am that girl. I have literally tried EVERYTHING. I had proactiv. I went to a dermatologies, I had clean& clear, I did chemical peels etc. At one point I just gave up and would literally just wash my face with whatever face wash I could find in my bathroom. A few years ago I started doing research for my skin type and I would buy little samples and try them out for a few months and see if there was any change. If the product worked, I would buy the full size and use. I also realized that when I introduced my face to a new product, I would break out (I believe that's called skin-purging). I remember reading a post that said that it means that if you have clogged pores, they may turn into pimples and active acne. If you have small pimples, they may turn into larger ones and it normally goes away within a few days. But if it lasts longer, than you should get rid of that product.

I feel like this is my most anticipated post. I receive a lot a lot of questions when I post a selfie or vlog a mini skincare routine on my IG story. My routine is going VERY detailed so grab a tall glass of wine and pen and notepad because this will be a lengthy blog post.

Watching a lot of youtube skincare routine, I noticed that some people have a morning routine and a nighttime routine. I think for me it's pretty much the same all around. except maybe my moisturizer. I will go into more details below.

What I love about the Clarisonic is those days when you wear makeup all day and you need a deep cleaning, this will definitely do the job. Another bonus is that it's rechargeable, unlike other spin brush that requires batteries.

I have been using this cleanser for so long I KNOW it works great for every skin tones. I have a full review on it in my Mario Badescu blog post so you can check it out here

this mask does but looking on their site it says that the mask vitamins and minerals that nourish skin for dry and combination skin. I really don't like the smell because it has a very strong perfume scent. But I love the way it fees after you put it on. you can tell it's nourishing.  Check out the full review here

I use this as a toner, this is especially great for oily skin. It's a lot gentler compared to other toners I have used. This does such a good job of getting the remaining oil and grime off my face without drying my skin out too much. Plus it smells like baby lotion.

This moisturizer hydrates all day, slips on easily absorbs quickly., helps strengthen skin’s own moisture barrier, so more moisture stays in. Great for both mornings and night. Also, the smell is weird but you only smell it when you put it on. Great moisturizer overall!

When I first put the moisturizer, I could tell immediately that I was going to like it. It goes on smoothly and absorbs quickly without leaving an oily residue. My old moisturizer would make my skin look like I just bathed in coconut oil can still feel the moisture when I wake up in the morning.  I use this particular lotion when I going out. The lotion is THICK so a little goes a long way. If you know anything about SPF lotions especially being a woman of color, your face will look purple-ish ... maybe that just me, but it leaves though. So this is not one of those lotions you put on if you're rushing.

From the site, A clinically proven* treatment primer that visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles while restoring skin firmness and elasticity. My mom has always told me to not wait until I'm older to start using anti-wrinkle creams. This is one of my favorites. The only thing I really don't like about this primer is the smell.

This hydrating mist that helps replenish skin's moisture level to revitalize and restore skin. I use this as a setting spray for my makeup and I keep it in my purse for extra hydration when I am out of the house. Believe it or not but philosophy DISCONTINUED it! They have another mist but its not the same! The only place you can get this exact mist is on eBay.

Always remember, the skin around your eye is VERY sensitive. It is important to take care of it and not put anything have isn't supposed to go there like ... TONER, that is a NO NO NO NO.  I like to use this before I go to bed because it marinates while I sleep. I also wear this under my makeup.  According to the site, this eye cream is supposed to target visible signs of aging. Smooths the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Encourages brighter, younger-looking under-eyes.

Before you even touch your face, make sure you

W A S H . Y O U R . H A N D S !

Then I like to wet my clarisonic brush and put the cleanser on it. Move it in circular motion all over your face. Don't brush hard because that will just irritate your skin.

I R R I T A T I O N = A C N E

The next step is to use your choice of toner, I like cleansing lotion from Mario Badescu. Witch Hazel and Tea Tree have some great toners. I put mine on a cotton pad and move it in a circular motion. This process is important because it removes oil, dirt, and grime; so you have a clean surface to place your lotion on. It is a NECESSITY for anyone with acne prone skin. Especially if you have oily skin.

Another step I like to do before applying toner, I like to add a mask.

I like using 2 because, why not ?

After you have put your toner, you HAVE to moisturize. If you are going outside, make sure you use a moisturizer that has SPF the more SPF the better. You can also use a serum of your choice. Read what type of protection the serum with provide. One of my favorite serums is the Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum. During this step, you can also add your eye cream

Finish it off with a hydrating mist like the one above or any mario badescu sprays.
